Press Release Body = Eight Students from the Delphian School worked for over a month to help prepare the 3rd annual Teen Maze, which was recently held at Linfield College in McMinnville, Oregon. The Teen Maze is an interactive learning project designed to demonstrate the possible effects of real life choices for 8th grade students.
Delphian School students worked with students from Linfield College and from other local area high schools to create a maze. Each school created a "room" in the maze that was intended to impart a lesson regarding "choices". The Delphian School room in the maze was sponsored by Henderson House, a protective shelter for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. The room was given the topic of "Safe Dating" and was geared to help eighth grade students to tell the difference between healthy and unhealthy relationships.
The students, led by the Delphian School's Community Outreach Organizer, Victoria Sene, created a board game that they called \"Safe Dateoply\". It is life-sized board game that shows what can happen as a result of a good or bad decision in starting a relationship.
The 8th graders were also taught a dance to help them remember what they had learned, and by the end of their visit to The Delphian School's section of the maze, they were shouting out the room's slogan: \"Safe Date, It Decides your Fate.\"
"I think these kids really enjoyed doing the dance and playing the game," said Victoria. "All the kids left with smiles on their faces, and I really enjoyed teaching them something that will help them when they get into high school.\"
